Guide cover: Customers near you complain about wrong listings? Keep yours correct

When reviews near you say "Google said open but it was shut" or "wrong address", customers stop trusting listings. Make sure yours is right. Check your hours, address, phone and map pin. A listing that is always correct helps customers trust you.

Imran runs a sweet shop near a temple. Reviews of shops nearby said "Google showed open, shop was closed" and "address took me to the wrong lane".

Imran checked his own listing. His festival hours were missing, and his pin was one lane off.

He fixed both the same day. He now checks his listing every Monday.

This is an example, with a made up name and business.

Fix it yourself

  1. Search for your business on Google Maps. Look at it like a new customer would.
  2. Check your hours. Are they right for every day? Our opening hours guide shows how to fix them.
  3. Add holiday and festival hours. Change them before each festival, not after.
  4. Check your address and map pin. Walk to your shop using Google Maps. Our map pin guide shows how to move it.
  5. Check your phone number. Call it from another phone. See our phone number guide.
  6. Check your category. It should say what you really are. See our category guide.
  7. Check it every week. Our weekly listing routine takes a little time each week.

Rules to keep

  • Only put true details on your listing.
  • Never edit another shop's listing.
  • Never say another listing is wrong in a post.

Common questions

Google says my shop is closed, but it is open. What now?

Read our guide on Google saying your shop is closed.

Someone changed my listing without asking. Can that happen?

Yes, people can suggest edits. Check your listing often and fix anything wrong.

Will a correct listing bring more customers?

Nobody can promise that. It stops customers from turning away because of wrong details.
