People sometimes post about a business on X, the app once called Twitter. It might be praise, a question or a complaint. A short, kind reply shows others that you listen. Reply from your own account, in your own words, and keep it calm.
Vikram runs a small cafe near a tech park. A customer posted on X: "Coffee was great but the wifi kept dropping."
Vikram did not have an X account, so he never saw it. Other people did.
He made an account and replied: "Thank you for coming. Sorry about the wifi. We have fixed it. Hope to see you again." The customer liked his reply.
This is an example, with a made up name and business.
Fix it yourself
- Search for your business name on X. Also try your area name with your business type.
- Read the post fully. Make sure it is really about your business.
- Decide if you should reply. Reply to praise, questions and fair complaints. Skip rude posts or arguments.
- Keep it short and kind. Thank them. Say sorry if something went wrong. Say what you did about it.
- Move private things to a call. Give your shop number. Never ask for their phone number in public.
- Use your own words. Do not paste the same reply under every post.
- Check X once a week. Add it to your weekly listing routine.
Rules to keep
- Never argue in public.
- Never share a customer's personal details.
- Never name or blame another business.
- Never post fake praise for yourself.
Common questions
I do not use X. Do I need it?
Not always. But if people post about you there, a reply helps. You can also reply on Google. See our guide on replying to Google reviews.
What if the post is not true?
Reply calmly with the facts once. Then move to a phone call.
Will a reply fix my name online?
Nobody can promise that. It shows readers that you care and you listen.
