When someone searches for a business like yours, they see a list. Other places show up next to you. You cannot control who else shows up. You can make your own listing complete. You can also give a clear reason to pick you, like a fair price, good photos or a real offer.
Pooja runs a laundry and ironing service in a busy area. She searched "laundry near me" on her phone.
Five other names came up next to hers. Some had photos, prices and offers. Pooja's listing had none of these.
She added photos, her price per piece, and a first wash offer with dates. Her listing now gave people a reason to tap it.
This is an example, with a made up name and business.
Fix it yourself
- Search like a customer. Use words a customer would use, like "tailor near me" or your area name. Our guide on what people see when they search you shows how.
- Note what the others show. Photos, prices, hours, replies to reviews. Do not copy them. Just see what customers can compare.
- Make your listing complete. Our Google listing checklist covers every part.
- Add clear photos and prices. See our photos guide and prices guide.
- Give one clear reason to pick you. A special item, fast service, or a real offer with a price and dates.
- Post it on your listing. Our guide on posting on your Google listing shows how.
- If you do not show up at all, read our guide on not being on page one nearby.
Rules to keep
- Never copy another business's photos, words or offers.
- Never name or criticise another business.
- Never post an offer you will not give.
Common questions
Can I stop other businesses from showing next to me?
No. Google decides what shows. You can only make your own listing better.
Should I pay for ads to show up first?
That is your choice. Start with a complete listing. It is the base for everything else.
Will this put me at the top?
Nobody can promise that. A complete listing with a clear reason helps a customer choose.
