Without a phone number, your Google listing has no Call button. Many customers want to ask one thing first: "Are you open?" or "Do you have this?" If they cannot call you, they call the next shop. Add one number you always answer.
Rajesh runs a hardware shop near a building site. Contractors need parts fast.
When he made his Google listing, he skipped the phone number. He did not want calls at night.
A contractor needed pipe fittings one morning. He searched, saw Rajesh's shop, and looked for a Call button. There was none. He called another shop and ordered there.
This is an example, with a made up name and business.
Pick the right number
Choose one number you will pick up in shop hours.
- A mobile number is fine.
- If you use WhatsApp for business, use the same number. Then people can call or message.
- Do not use a number that only a helper answers, unless they always pick up.
Worried about calls at night? Your opening hours on Google show when you are closed. Many people will not call then.
Fix it yourself
- Open your Business Profile. You can search for your business name on Google while signed in.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Find Contact, then Phone number (Google).
- Put in your number. Check every digit.
- Save.
Google may take some time to show the change.
Then test it
- Open Google Maps on another phone.
- Search for your business name.
- Tap Call.
Does your phone ring? If yes, it works.
Make it match everywhere
Your number may also be on other apps, your website, your board and your visiting card. Make all of them show the same one.

Common questions
Can I add two numbers?
Yes. Google lets you add an extra number. Keep the one you always answer as the main one.
Will my number be public?
Yes. Anyone who sees your listing can see it. That is what lets customers call you.
Will a phone number bring more customers?
Nobody can promise that. But a customer who cannot call you may not wait.
